Carnival and Pals

Carnival.... I did not have my camera I tole this from one of the Anna's via facebook. She is in the middle. You can see my gold mask on the back of my head.... I will post more from Carnival when I see them on facebook.
Some random house next to where we got tapas in Pals... I thought it was cool.
We stayed in both of these houses. But mainly in the right one

Some highlights of the past week:

On Tuesday night I went to Sitges for Carnival. I was dressed as a Dios del Sol aka Apollo the Sun God. Basically I bought a bunch of cheap gold looking stuff and wanted a cane so I had this cheap and too short plastic cane that of course I ended up breaking and losing during the night. I was driven to Sitges by Paco and Juanjo. From there we went to watch the parade. It was pretty cool. Very similar to Mardi Gras except no bead throwing, a lot more techno music, common for guys to be dressed in drag, and every float had a bar on it haha. We walked around and got food till around 12:30 when Paco and Juanjo left. I met up with Vicent, Meri, Anna, Jessica, Anna, and some others. I really explored Sitges with all the Spanish in “true” Spanish style. I have come to dispel the stereotype that Spaniards do not get as drunk as Americans. Well at least for this night haha. I learned a Spanish song: “alcohol, alcohol, alcohol, alcohol, alcohol, hemos venido a emborracharnos, el resultado nos da igual!” translation: alcohol....... we've come to get drunk, we don’t care about the result! After I found out what it really meant, I was kinda disappointed. Talk about no originality, but fun nonetheless to belt it out with a bunch of drunk Spaniards in the middle of the street. We walked from the train station to the beach where literally it looked like out of a pamphlet or something for Carnival. This old lit up church in the background with a nice breeze coming from the Mediterranean sea and then a bunch of people in costumes rocking out to techno on the beach haha… It was too crowed for me, honestly there looked like over 10,000 people on this small beach. We ended up getting back on the train around 5 am. I had to wake up on Wednesday (or that same morning for those keeping track) to take audio exam for Spanish, which started at 9 am haha. I ended up getting a 9.0 on it so it was not bad. On Thursday I went out even though I really did not want to… I ended up not being allowed to get into a club because I was wearing tennis shoes… which goes to show how little effort I put in to going out. On Friday I tried booking trips with Matt, it was not successful at all. I only booked one flight to Lisbon. That night I went up with Laura, Marta, Victor, Oxana, Sergi, another Laura, and Matt to Pals. Pals is a small beach town about an hour and half drive north from Barcelona. The whole day was typical Spanish, leave late, eat late, party late, and have a good time. I think I went to bed around 7 am… Yikes. We woke up and went into town which was a small and quaint town. We had an assortment of tapas and then headed back home. The weather was not very good so we never really went to the beach. That night we ate pasta and drank wine from the Perron. Then we went to a bar so Matt and Sergi could use the internet. This bar also had pool, darts, and Karaoke in French, English, and Spanish. The videos for the Karaoke were ridiculous. For example, for Britney Spears Hit Me Baby One More Time, the video behind the lyrics was a carousal with kids on it and then it would switch to a train… so strange. But I learned how to play darts this game called cricket… I think it is my new favorite game. Matt went home while I was at that bar on a train. Although in the process he annoyed like half the group, because they had to drive him in the dark like 30 mins away. But no pasa nada. When that bar closed we went to the only bar open left in Pals. While we were there a wedding party came. Talk about a site to see. Really strange especially cause this bar looked like a cheesy Florida biker bar with a Spanish touch. Again we played darts and pool as the Spanish wedding party did their thing. Fun fact I never lost in the night which was cool. We went to bed and woke up and headed home on Sunday. I was kinda tired but I had to study for my International Econ test, which I did nothing for since that moment. I was nervous. My friend Josh Lurie from Wisconsin came over and we studied together till like 3:30 am. We had Pizza Hut for dinner with Paco, and as a study break we smoked hookah. Haha. I woke the next morning knowing it was game day and I had to study till my test at 2:20. I think I did okay on the test; a lot better than I thought I would when I woke up. It is strange actually having to be a real student here haha. Now this week I will catch up on my sleep and hopefully on Thursday get to do a tour of the Costa Brava by car!!!
